As part of the cancer awareness campaign, initiated by esseha.dz in collaboration with Celluloplast, Pr Kamel Adjali, head of the urological surgery department at the CHU Bab El Oued, talks about bladder cancer…
The awareness campaign on cancer, initiated by esseha.dz for the whole month of February, continues by involving specialists who face this disease daily in all its forms, to enlighten us on its aspects and the behavior that we must take. to apprehend it in good conditions and have the maximum chance of healing at hand.
Today, it is Pr Kamel Adjali, head of the urological surgery department at the Bab El Oued University Hospital, who comes to talk to us about bladder cancer. This type of cancer is important to know because of its frequency in our country and its seriousness.
“Most of the time, bladder cancer is manifested by the presence of haematuria, in other words an abnormal amount of blood in the urine”, indicates the specialist.
Pr Adjali indicates that the person who notices this symptom in him must immediately consult his doctor or a urologist who will carry out an ultrasound examination of the bladder and see if it does not contain polyps and thickenings.
Generally, we ask, in addition to the ultrasound, a uro-scanner or a thoraco-abdomino-pelvic scanner to find out if the disease has not evolved and affected other organs, explains the guest of esseha. dz.
The head of the urological surgery department specifies that “in 80% of cases, the cause of the disease comes from tobacco. But also work in petrochemicals and heavy metals”.
The treatment of bladder cancer, according to our guest, depends on the stage of the disease. If the cancer is at the so-called superficial stage, not affecting the deep organs of the bladder, the treatment will consist of endoscopic resection (scraping) until the entire affected layer is removed. This work will be followed by endovesical chemotherapy to avoid recurrences, which occur fairly quickly depending on the results of the Ana-path.
The second treatment is very aggressive. It involves the removal of the entire bladder and surrounding organs. In men, it is total cystoprostatectomy, followed by an outward ureteral connection. This surgery is completed by chemotherapy. The results of this therapy are satisfactory from the point of view of survival and quality of life, specifies Pr Adjali.
In women, the situation is a little more complicated, an anterior pelvectomy is often performed (removal of the bladder and uterus and sometimes even the ovaries), in addition to drainage of the ureters to the outside so that the person can urinate from the sides through the stomas. Surgery is also followed by chemotherapy.
Our guest advises people not to smoke and to do early detection.
As part of the cancer awareness campaign, initiated by esseha.dz in collaboration with Celluloplast
As part of the cancer awareness campaign, initiated by esseha.dz in collaboration with Celluloplast, Pr Kamel Bentabak, head of the oncological surgery department at the CPMC, talks about colorectal cancer.
.
The series of videos produced by esseha.dz and dedicated this month of February to cancer awareness continues today with the intervention of Pr Kamel Bentabak, head of the oncological surgery department at the CPMC, who addresses the theme of colorectal cancer .
This disease is the first cancer in men and the second after breast cancer in women, says Pr Bentabak. In Algeria, and according to the INSP referenced by the speaker, 6,500 cases are recorded annually.
Our specialist cites a number of symptoms that should alert the person to consult instead of falling on the false trail of self-medication. Among these symptoms, the specialist cites the traces of blood in the stool, the blackness of the stool, weight loss, the feeling of weakness or pain in his digestive system.
This disease generally targets people between the ages of 60 and 65. But it can also affect people in their forties, warns Pr Bentabak.
The appearance of blood in the stool is often seen by sufferers as coming from hemorrhoids and act accordingly. However, the best course of action is to let the attending physician examine it well by even performing a rectoscopy.
Given the frequency of this disease, the guest of esseha.dz advises people over the age of 50 to do early screening which will avoid complicated and serious forms of colorectal cancer. Examinations and tests such as colonoscopy or the Hemoccult test are, in Professor Bentabak’s opinion, likely to capture cancer in time and, therefore, treat it in time.
Pr Bentabak ends his intervention by calling on people with symptoms in their stools not to be ashamed to go to consult. The doctor is trained for this and this kind of examination is natural
